Ludwig Donath, actor. Named a Communist before the HUAC by Lee J. Cobb in 1953. Basically, there were
no dramatic changes in his career from 1950 onwards.
From 1950 through 1952, he made
five films, having a bit role in all three films. He appeared in eight
television dramas and one short and one Broadway production. From 1953 through
1959, ideally, the time he was blacklisted, he appeared in two films, 9 TV
dramas, two Broadways plays, and one off-Broadway production. From 1960 through
1967, (The year he died) he appeared in 3 films and 19 TV dramas. He also did a
healthy business teaching acting and singing.
Born in 1900, he was 53 years old in 1953, again, ancient by Hollywood
standards and roles for an actor that age, male or female, are difficult to
find. Add Donath’s accent to mix, the chances darken even more. Donath was not
a leading man and for the most part, did back up parts.

Just because someone’s name
appeared in Red Channels, that doesn’t mean they were blacklisted. It just
means there name appeared in Red Channels.
Just because a person said they
were blacklisted doesn’t mean they were. Many people in Hollywood have lied about
being blacklisted over the years.
If a person was actually blacklisted…and not
many were actually blacklisted….it was the studios and TV sponsors who
blacklisted them. Not the United States federal government.
If a person claims the blacklist
ruined their career, they should be able to prove they had a career before the
blacklist.
